Why Caravelle?

A symbol of the great discoveries, the caravel ("caravelle" in French) is the result of Nordic and Mediterranean influences. Designed by the Portuguese in 1430, based on Arabic influences, this light manoeuvrable ship is itself a clever and innovative blend of knowledge from several different civilisations.

Besides the musicality of the name, caravels took Europeans around the world in their first interactions with languages as yet unheard of.
